What We Do

Everyday Democracy Program Directors Sue McComack and Carolyne Abdullah (standing on the right) monitor sample discussion during an orientation on addressing racism in Austin, Texas. The orientation was hosted by the Texas Forums.

We Learn.

Since 1989, we have provided advice and training to more than 550 communities across the country. Using what works, we create innovative tools and processes to benefit communities, and also turn what we learn into best practices in dialogue, deliberation and civic engagement. This learning never stops.

We Coach.

We focus our assistance where people of different backgrounds and views are committed to working together to solve public problems. We help communities adapt ideas and tools to fit their needs.

We also help communities see how their work contributes to a stronger democracy. Our ultimate goal: everyday democarcy so that your community—and every community—works better for everyone.

We Write and Publish Materials.

We write and publish issue guides on a variety of public issues for use in small-group disucssions that are part of a community change effort.

We Tell Stories.

We tell real-life stories that show what is hard and what can work. Communities’ stories give others hope and inspire them to act. Tell your community’s story of engaging in dialogue for change.

We Partner.

We work with national and regional organizations to help them make dialogue and problem solving a part of their work.
