Session title: "Building Commitment to End Poverty: Strategies for Action (issue framing) and Working with the Press."
Session description: How does "framing" an issue help to gain support for change? This workshop will discuss effective ways to frame the issue of poverty and support for the non-profit social service sector to increase support, engage the community in discussion, work wtih the press, and to gain commitment for taking action to reduce poverty.

National School Public Relations Association's National Seminar 2008 |
Date and location: July 4-7, 2008 in Washington, D.C.
Session title: "Tools to engage racially and ethnically diverse parents, staff, and students in dialogue and problem solving"
Session description: This workshop will help racially and ethnically diverse schools that are struggling to engage families. The Montgomery County Public Schools’ Study Circles program in Maryland has helped over 60 schools address racial and ethnic barriers to student achievement and parent involvement. The program provides trained facilitators, organizing tools for diverse audiences, and discussion materials, and support for action. This workshop will be interactive, give an overview of the program, talk about outcomes, and provide tools for recruiting parents, training facilitators, and supporting action steps.
